Recognising domestic abuse

Domestic abuse isn’t always physical. It can include:

  • Controlling your money or what you do

  • Checking your phone or social media

  • Threatening or bullying you

  • Hurting you physically or sexually

  • Making you feel worthless or scared

Anyone can be a victim, regardless of gender, age, or background.

Protecting yourself

You can apply to the courts for a protection order if you’re at risk. This can stop someone from contacting you or coming near you. You can apply online, by email, or by post.

Supporting someone else

If you’re worried about someone:

  • Call the National Domestic Abuse Helpline on 0808 2000 247.

  • Listen without judging.

  • Help them find support.
