Since 2012, the NHS has led a nationwide health campaign regarding stopping smoking. Titled Stoptober, the idea is current smokers commit to stop smoking for the entire month of October. If you are a current smoker and choose to stop for the month, you are 5 times more likely to stop completely. Since starting Stoptober in 2012, over 2.5 million people have attempted to quit.
Total Wellbeing in Luton, based at Hightown Gym and Wellbeing Centre, are big advocates towards stopping smoking. They offer a 12-week programme, helping users of the service with personalised behavioural support and access to stop smoking aids. Specialists offer one to one advice with each patient, customising the programme to the user’s needs, giving them support and motivation to help them quit for good.
They offer face to face appointments, at different locations across the town, suiting you wherever you are. They run from Monday to Saturday 9am to 6pm. They also offer an evening clinic open until 8pm (adjusted hours on Saturday)
During this month or just in general, if you are looking to join millions of others in stopping smoking for good, please self-refer yourself through the link here, text the word QUIT to 60066 or contact them on 03005554152.
(If you are between the ages of 12 to 18, you can only be supported with a parent or guardian’s consent and can only use NRT products as treatment)
