If you’re planning to travel outside the UK, you may need to be vaccinated against some of the serious diseases found in other parts of the world.

Travel Vaccinations via the NHS

The NHS provides certain travel vaccinations for free if they are considered important for public health. These usually include vaccinations for destinations with specific risks. Common free NHS vaccinations include:

  • Hepatitis A
  • Typhoid
  • Diphtheria, Tetanus, and Polio (combined vaccine)

You can arrange these through your GP or an NHS travel clinic.

Travel Vaccinations via Pharmacies/Private Clinics

Some vaccinations are not covered by the NHS and must be obtained through private travel clinics or pharmacies. These include vaccinations for more exotic or less common travel destinations. Common paid vaccinations include:

  • Hepatitis B
  • Rabies
  • Japanese Encephalitis
  • Yellow Fever
  • Tick-borne Encephalitis
  • Meningococcal Meningitis

Pharmacies like Boots or Superdrug often offer these services.

It’s recommended to plan your vaccinations well in advance, as some vaccines require multiple doses over a period of time.
